Jaecoo J7 PHEV AWD Launches in Australia
Jaecoo unveils an all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid J7 SUV for Australia. It produces 354 PS and has an 80 km NEDC electric range.

Jaecoo has introduced an all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid variant of its J7 C-segment SUV, with Australia receiving the model first this month. The Jaecoo J7 PHEV AWD produces a total system output of 354 PS and 490 Nm of torque.
This new drivetrain uses the brand's Super Hybrid System-Plug-in Hybrid (SHS-P), which differs from systems in related models. It pairs a 1.5-liter turbo engine with two electric motors, one for each axle, but retains a single-speed dedicated hybrid transmission.
Powertrain and Performance Specifications
The AWD system adds a second electric motor to drive the rear wheels. The combined output sees a significant increase over the front-wheel-drive version.
| Component | Specification |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1.5L turbo, 103 PS, 215 Nm |
| Front Motor | 204 PS, 210 Nm |
| Rear Motor | 154 PS, 210 Nm |
| Total System Output | 354 PS, 490 Nm |
This represents a gain of 75 PS and 125 Nm compared to the standard front-wheel-drive J7 PHEV.
Battery, Charging, and Electric Range
Power comes from an 18.4 kWh BYD lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which is unchanged from the front-wheel-drive model. The source states that the increased performance and traction come at the expense of efficiency. The pure electric range drops to 80 km on the NEDC cycle, down from 100 km for the FWD variant. The report expects a real-world WLTP range closer to 70 km.
Charging capabilities remain the same. The vehicle supports DC fast charging at up to 40 kW, which can replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes. AC charging is capped at 6.6 kW, requiring 2.6 hours for a charge from 25% to 100%.
Australian Market Trim and Pricing
In Australia, the AWD model is offered only in the top Summit trim level. This trim includes 19-inch alloy wheels, full LED exterior lighting, and the PHEV model's specific door mirrors.
The interior is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.8-inch portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen. Other features listed are a head-up display, heated steering wheel, powered and ventilated front seats, a Sony eight-speaker audio system, a built-in dash cam, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, and a powered tailgate.
Standard safety equipment includes eight airbags and a suite of driver assistance systems such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, and lane centring assist.
The Jaecoo J7 PHEV AWD Summit is priced at AU$47,990 (approximately RM138,500). The report notes this price is higher than both the front-wheel-drive Summit variant and the related Geely Starray EM-i Inspire AWD, which are each listed at AU$44,990.
