A major German automaker has selected neueHCT's QNX-powered HCT Luna High-Performance Smart Camera Solution for a global passenger vehicle platform launching in China. BlackBerry’s QNX and neueHCT announced the selection, describing it as the first major global programme for the QNX-based HCT Luna solution.
Solution features and technical foundation
The HCT Luna solution provides advanced active safety functions and a front-view smart camera as standard equipment in mass-production vehicles. It is built on Horizon Robotics' Journey® 6B automotive compute platform and operates on QNX Operating System for Safety 8.0.
Features include automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and traffic light recognition. The system also handles complex scenarios like vehicle cut-ins, sharp curves, and construction zones. It can maintain vehicle centring even when lane markings are limited or absent.
The software foundation is key. QNX OS for Safety 8.0 is certified to ISO 26262 ASIL D and assessed to ISO/SAE 21434 for automotive cybersecurity. This enables efficient adaptation across different vehicle platforms, helping automakers shorten development and introduction cycles. The solution supports consistent functionality across multiple models, regional configurations, and road environments.
Scalability and market expansion
The programme uses a scalable, platform-based algorithm architecture. QNX said this design can be adapted to different vehicle platforms and may help reduce development and launch cycles. Its use will extend from individual vehicle applications to multiple platforms and models.
Production is scheduled to begin in 2027. Volumes are projected to reach several million units during the first three years. The programme launches in China with planned expansion to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea.
Executive commentary and broader context
QNX president John Wall linked the win to broader industry shifts. "This programme demonstrates the role QNX OS for Safety 8.0 can play in helping scale advanced driver assistance capabilities across platforms, models and markets," he said.
QNX is a division of BlackBerry Limited, trusted by leading OEMs and Tier 1s worldwide including BMW, Bosch, Continental, Geely, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo. Its technology underpins hundreds of millions of vehicles on the road. Earlier this year, QNX and German software company Vector launched Alloy Kore, a foundational vehicle software platform developed for software-defined vehicles.
NeueHCT is an intelligent driving company jointly established by Horizon Robotics and AUMOVIO in 2022. It supplies advanced driver-assistance systems and intelligent driving solutions to global OEMs across passenger vehicles, two-wheeled mobility, and level 4 autonomous driving logistics vehicles. The company states its mission is 'To Make Every Journey Safer and Better' and its products comply with Euro NCAP 5-star safety standards.
Production begins in 2027 for the global passenger vehicle platform launching in China, with subsequent expansion to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea.
