Common questions

Is this a site about buying cars?

No. The Plant Floor is about building them: assembly plants, the supplier tiers feeding them, shift patterns, tooling and capacity. Prices, road tests and buying advice are not covered here at all.

Who is it written for?

For people who work in or around vehicle manufacturing in Asia, or who follow it closely. The writing assumes you know what a tier one supplier is and does not stop to explain it. Plants, Makers and Suppliers are the three registries the rest of the site hangs off.

Where do the stories come from?

From named trade publications, company statements and government releases, summarised and credited in each piece with a link to the original. Production numbers and investment figures belong to whoever published them first, and that publisher is named. Nothing is presented as first-hand reporting from inside a factory.

How current is it?

Pieces land through the day as the sources publish, so News is a rolling feed rather than a daily edition. A plant or supplier page changes when something is reported about it, not on a schedule.

What goes in Policy?

Policy covers the government side of production: tariffs, local content rules, subsidies and emissions timelines, as they affect what gets built where. It sits next to Production, which handles output, capacity and line changes. Anything about a specific plant also appears under Plants.

How are mistakes handled?

The Corrections page sets out what to include when you report one, which is the article address and the claim at issue. A correction is made on the article with a footnote recording the change and its date, and substantive ones are listed on that page.
