Proton S70 NA hits 10,000 bookings ahead of launch
Proton has received 10,000 bookings for the new naturally-aspirated S70 in two weeks. The model, launching September 22, starts below RM60,000 and expands the S70 lineup with Lite and Prime variants.

Proton has secured 10,000 bookings for the new naturally-aspirated S70 in the two weeks since its announcement. The national carmaker says this equates to one order every two minutes.
While the booking numbers are strong, Proton faces production bottlenecks. The company is currently prioritizing Saga deliveries, which may delay fulfillment of these new S70 orders.
Launch and Pricing Details
The car will be officially launched on September 22 at 8pm. The event will be livestreamed on Proton's Facebook and TikTok channels.
The NA S70 extends the S70 range downwards, acting as an indirect replacement for the soon-to-be-discontinued Persona. Proton has promised a starting price below RM60,000. Two variants will be offered: Lite and Prime.
| Variant | Expected Price Range (RM) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Lite | 55,000 - 59,000 | A few thousand more than the top-spec Saga Premium. |
| Prime | 65,000 - 69,000 | Pricing based on a leaked internal presentation slide. |
Powertrain and Drivetrain
Both variants will use a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine. This is the BHE15-CFN i-GT unit, producing 120 PS and 150 Nm of torque, which is also found in the Saga MC3.
The engine will be paired with a new torque converter CVT. This is likely the same WLY unit used in the S70's Chinese-market twin, the Geely Emgrand. The transmission is expected to feature a simulated eight-speed mode, operated through the S70 Turbo's electronic gear lever.
Variant Specifications and Features
The NA version is distinguished externally by a full gloss black grille. The Lite and Prime models have different equipment levels compared to the turbocharged S70 Executive.
The Lite variant comes with halogen headlights. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto up/down windows, and a reverse camera.
The Prime variant upgrades to LED headlights. It adds automatic air conditioning, faux leather upholstery, and 17-inch alloy wheels. These wheels were previously exclusive to the Flagship turbo model.
A significant drawback for both NA variants is the lack of advanced driver assistance systems. According to the source, neither model will be available with autonomous emergency braking. This feature is even present on the cheaper Saga Premium.
The launch marks a strategic expansion of Proton's S70 lineup into a more accessible price bracket.
