Honda's 2027 Africa Twin gains larger 1,131cc engine and radar rider aids
Honda has unveiled the 2027 Africa Twin series, led by the Adventure Sports model with a new 1,131cc engine producing 119 hp and optional radar-based Honda SENSING RIDE safety technology.

The 2027 Honda CRF1150L Africa Twin Adventure Sports debuts with a larger 1,131cc parallel-twin engine and optional radar-based rider assistance. Honda said: "The parallel-twin engine grows from 1,084cc to 1,131cc, producing 119 hp at 7,500rpm and 119 Nm at 5,750rpm." This output marks a 16.5% increase in peak power over the previous 1,100cc model. The displacement gain comes from a larger 94mm bore, a revised intake system, a new cylinder head, updated valve timing, and lighter internal components. The new series, developed under the 'Shaped by You. True Adventure for All' concept, replaces the CRF1100L platform and was unveiled at EICMA 2026.
Chassis, suspension and ergonomics
A revised steel frame and aluminium swingarm combine to reduce weight by 1.4kg. Honda has positioned a new fuel sub-tank beneath the seat to lower the motorcycle's centre of gravity. The 49mm front forks offer 210mm of travel, while the rear Pro-Link suspension provides 200mm. A new Minimum suspension setting lowers seat height by 5mm, with the standard seat adjustable between 830mm and 850mm.
The range includes standard, Adventure Sports, and a new Enduro Sports model. The Enduro Sports variant features CRF450 RALLY-inspired front suspension developed for dedicated off-road performance. Its handlebars are 10mm narrower and positioned 10mm higher and further forward than on the previous Africa Twin. Wheel sizes remain familiar across the variants.
| Model Variant | Front Wheel | Rear Wheel | Key Suspension Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard / Adventure Sports | 21-inch / 19-inch* | 18-inch | Showa EERA with Honda Skyhook |
| Enduro Sports | 21-inch | 18-inch | CRF450 RALLY-inspired front suspension |
*The Adventure Sports uses a 19-inch front wheel.
Rider-assistance technology
The biggest technology upgrade is the optional Honda SENSING RIDE system, which debuts on the Africa Twin Adventure Sports DCT variant. It uses front and rear millimeter-wave radar sensors to detect surrounding traffic. Honda said: "Its front and rear radar sensors enable adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, Group Ride Assist, Distance Assist and Emergency Brake Assist." The system also provides forward collision warning, blind spot information, and rear collision warning, and can flash the indicators to warn following traffic. Developed to reduce rider fatigue, it is specifically listed as optional equipment for the Adventure Sports DCT model.
Equipment and variant highlights
The cockpit features a new 5.7-inch vehicle information display alongside a 7-inch full-colour TFT touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a USB-C socket, and a lockable smartphone compartment are standard. Braking on all models comes from dual four-piston radial-mount front calipers and 310mm discs, with a 256mm rear disc, all supported by Electronically Controlled Combined ABS.
Six riding modes are available: Sport, Touring, Urban, Rain, Offroad, and Offroad+. Riders can customise engine power, engine braking, and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC). The Adventure Sports variant prioritises long-distance touring with a 24.2-litre fuel tank, an electrically adjustable windscreen with 130mm of travel, and a claimed range of approximately 480km. Styling updates include revised bodywork and dual LED headlights with cornering lights.
Honda has focused on sustainable materials. Chemically recycled acrylic is used in the emblems and taillights, a first for a Honda motorcycle. Chemically recycled nylon features in the upper covers and rear fender stays, while the windscreen and side deflectors use plant-derived DURABIO bioengineering plastic.
Kerb weights vary by specification. The model is priced at RM99,888 in Malaysia. The 2027 CRF1150L Africa Twin Adventure Sports will be available in Pearl Glare White (Tricolour) and Mat Ballistic Black Metallic.
