Omoda C7 HEV to launch in Malaysia with 1,000+ km range
Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia will launch the C7 HEV, its first non-plug-in hybrid, in 2027. The model features a new 5 kWh battery enabling a total range exceeding 1,000 km and will be locally assembled.

Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia will introduce the C7 HEV model in 2027 as the brand's first non-plug-in hybrid for the local market. The vehicle was revealed at the Chery International User Summit in Wuhu, China, and is designed specifically for international markets. It will be locally assembled in Malaysia following the launch of the internal combustion engine version.
If it arrives before the Jaecoo J5 HEV, the C7 will be the brand's first non-plug-in hybrid sold in the country. This will give the Omoda C7 a three-powertrain lineup for Malaysia, consisting of petrol, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options.
Technical specifications
The Omoda C7 HEV combines a turbocharged 1.5 litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with an electric motor. The petrol unit produces 143 PS and 215 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 204 PS electric motor and a single-speed dedicated hybrid transmission.
Total combined output is 224 PS and 295 Nm. A new 5 kWh battery pack is key to the system. Chery stated, "The Omoda 7 SHS-H has its own world premiere component, a 5 kWh battery that was announced at the IUS."
This larger battery enables a total driving range exceeding 1,000 kilometres, with suggestions it may approach 1,100 km. The model will also introduce a 2.2 kW vehicle-to-load capability, described as a first for a traditional hybrid electric vehicle. A Super Quiet Mode will provide EV-like quietness during starts, acceleration, and cruising.
For comparison, the related Jaecoo J5 HEV shown at the Beijing Auto Show 2026 uses a 1.83 kWh battery and has a combined range of 980 km under the CLTC test cycle.
Powertrain lineup
The C7 HEV completes a three-variant powertrain strategy for the model in Malaysia. The lineup's specifications are as follows:
| Model Variant | Engine / Key Spec | Combined Output | Key Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Omoda C7 Petrol | 1.6L turbo inline-four | 197 PS / 290 Nm | Seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission |
| Omoda C7 HEV | 1.5L Atkinson + 5 kWh battery | 224 PS / 295 Nm | 1,000+ km total range |
| Omoda C7 PHEV | BYD-sourced 18.3 kWh LFP battery | 360 PS / 530 Nm | ~106 km electric-only range (NEDC) |
The plug-in hybrid variant's total output is 13 PS and five Nm more than the Jaecoo J7 PHEV. Its 18.3 kWh battery provides up to 106 km of all-electric range under the NEDC cycle, with a combined hybrid range of 1,300 km.
Local production and market positioning
The C7 HEV will be locally assembled in Malaysia. Its introduction is scheduled after the launch of the internal combustion engine version of the C7. This local production move aligns with the brand's plan to bring more models to the market, including the Omoda 2 and the Jaecoo J9.
The C7 HEV will be introduced after the ICE version goes on sale in Malaysia.
