BMW Motorrad has unveiled the new F 450 RR motorcycle. It is positioned as a relatively lightweight option in the entry-level supersport category. The model is part of BMW’s 420cc parallel-twin family and joins the middleweight range alongside the F 450 GS adventure bike and the F 450 R roadster. The F 450 RR follows those releases and serves as an entry point into BMW’s full RR supersport range.

Engine and drivetrain specifications

The F 450 RR is powered by a 420cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. It produces 35 kW (48 hp) at 8,750 rpm. Peak torque is 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm. BMW Motorrad claims that 80% of maximum torque is available from 3,000 rpm, providing stronger low-speed response. The engine features a 135-degree crankpin offset and includes a balance shaft. Power is sent through a six-speed transmission. Final drive is via a left-side X-ring chain.

Chassis, suspension and braking

The chassis is a tubular steel space frame with the engine acting as a stressed member. Front suspension is handled by a torsionally rigid 43 mm KYB upside-down telescopic fork. At the rear is a hollow-cast aluminium double-sided swingarm with a KYB monoshock. Braking uses a 310 mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston monobloc caliper and a 240 mm rear disc with a ByBre single-piston caliper. The motorcycle comes with a suite of rider aids. These include BMW Motorrad ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), and engine drag torque control (MSR).

Variants, features and equipment

BMW Motorrad offers the F 450 RR in four equipment variants. The Sport and M Sport trims receive upgraded suspension with adjustable damping.

The Innovation Package adds BMW’s Easy Ride Clutch. ERC keeps engine braking active during deceleration. With this system fitted, the motorcycle's weight increases by one kilogram to 178 kg. Without it, the ready-to-ride weight is 177 kg.

Design, ergonomics and performance

Styling is inspired by the BMW S 1000 RR superbike. The F 450 RR features a low front end, raised tail, winglets, and asymmetric side fairings. Other highlights include right-side fairing gills and an LED headlight with an RR-inspired daytime running light signature. Clip-on handlebars provide a sportier riding position. The sculpted tank offers knee support. Standard seat height is 790 mm, with optional seats adjusting it to 775 mm or 810 mm. The motorcycle rolls on 17-inch cast-aluminium wheels with 110/70 front and 150/60 rear tyres.

BMW claims a top speed of 177 km/h. The manufacturer states the 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 5.6 seconds. Fuel consumption is rated at 3.8 litres per 100 km from a 14-litre tank. Service intervals are set at 10,000 km. The F 450 RR is positioned as a lightweight entry point into BMW Motorrad’s RR supersport range, following the F 450 R and F 450 GS models.
