Chery Launches Tiggo X7 and Tiggo 7 SUVs for Global Families
Chery Auto unveiled the new Tiggo X7 and third-generation Tiggo 7 SUVs at a Brand Night event, targeting global markets with a focus on family comfort and off-road capability.

Chery unveiled the Tiggo X7 and the next-generation Tiggo 7 at its Brand Night event in Wuhu, China. The launches expand the automaker's global SUV lineup with models designed for family comfort and varied road conditions. Executive Vice President Guibing Zhang led the event, which featured families from the UK, Brazil, Ecuador, Poland, Romania, and South Africa.
The Tiggo X7 is the first model in Chery's new Tiggo X series. It is engineered to blend everyday convenience with off-road capability. The company also presented the Tiggo 7, described as an all-new model but appearing as an update to the medium SUV sold in the UK since last year. It succeeds the second-generation model currently available in markets like Malaysia.
Technical specifications
The Tiggo X7's dimensions and powertrain options provide a foundation for its dual-purpose design. The model is 4,636 mm long with a 2,700 mm wheelbase. Buyers can choose between two turbocharged engine and transmission combinations, with either front- or all-wheel drive.
| Specification | 1.5L Turbo Option | 1.6L Turbo Option |
|---|---|---|
| Power | 156 hp | 194 hp |
| Torque | 230 Nm | 290 Nm |
| Transmission | 6-speed automatic | 7-speed dual-clutch |
For comparison, the new Tiggo 7 is 4,600 mm long, making it 36 mm shorter than the Tiggo X7, though it shares the same 2,700 mm wheelbase.
Design and capabilities
The Tiggo X7 sports a rugged exterior with an upright octagonal grille, L-shaped LED daytime running lights, and vertical LED bumper strips. Exposed tow hooks and squared fender arches emphasize its off-road intent. It offers six dedicated off-road drive modes: Snow, Mud, Sand, Mountain, Rock, and Water Wading. The vehicle has a towing capacity of up to 1,500 kg.
The Tiggo 7 maintains a family-focused C-SUV design similar to its predecessor, with updated body panels, LED headlights, and a revised front apron. Its interior includes premium features such as massaging seats and footrests.
ADAS and market positioning
Advanced driver-assistance systems mark the Tiggo X7's technological ambition. It is equipped with a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, indicating Level 2.5 ADAS capabilities. The model's design and features may raise eyebrows in Munich, suggesting Chery is positioning it near established premium competitors.
Chery states the Tiggo 7 is positioned as a "high-quality SUV bringing comfort to families worldwide." The company's broader vehicle design is guided by its 'For Family' philosophy, aimed at meeting family needs across the globe. Brand ambassadors for Chery include former footballer Peter Crouch and former goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar. The Tiggo X7's development was directly informed by this family-centric approach.
