Mercedes-AMG GT SUV launches with three high-performance EV variants
Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its first dedicated electric crossover, the GT SUV, in GT53, GT55, and GT63 variants.

Mercedes-AMG has launched its first ground-up electric performance crossover, the GT SUV, available in GT53, GT55, and GT63 variants. The GT53 is available for order now globally, with the GT55 and GT63 arriving in the spring of 2027. Built on the dedicated AMG Electrical Architecture (AMG.EA), the five-seater SUV delivers unprecedented power and range, positioning it as a flagship EV in the luxury performance segment.
Powertrain and Performance Specifications
The three variants deliver distinct power outputs and acceleration times based on their motor configurations. The GT53 uses a two-motor setup with a synchronous electric motor on each axle and a two-speed gearbox at the rear. The GT55 and GT63 feature a more complex three-motor system, with two axial-flux motors on the rear axle and one on the front, where the front motor can disengage for efficiency.
| Variant | Power (PS/kW) | Torque (Nm) | 0-100 km/h | Top Speed (km/h) | Battery (kWh) | WLTP Range (km) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GT 53 | 367 / 270 | 800 | 4.2 sec | 250 | 106 | Up to 668 |
| GT 55 | 721 / 530 | 1,860 | 3.1 sec | 270* | 128 | Up to 700 |
| GT 63 | 1,169 / 860 | 2,000 | 2.7 sec | 270* | 128 | Up to 700 |
*With optional Driver’s Package.
The top-spec GT63 can also reach 200 km/h from a standstill in just 7.2 seconds. Mercedes-AMG said the new model is "Affalterbach’s first ground-up crossover, utilising the building blocks of its lower-slung sibling and offering a similar amount of performance."
Charging Capabilities and Range
All variants feature an 800-volt electrical architecture for rapid charging. The GT53 supports DC fast charging at up to 600kW with the optional AMG Performance Charging, while the GT55 and GT63 support up to 710kW. Mercedes-AMG claims charging from 10% to 80% can take approximately 11 to 12 minutes on a compatible setup. The larger 128kWh battery in the GT55 and GT63 enables a WLTP range of up to 700 km.
Design and Technology Features
The GT SUV measures 5,084 mm long, 2,001 mm wide, and 1,656 mm tall, with a 3,040 mm wheelbase, making it the largest Mercedes EV. Its aerodynamic design results in a drag coefficient of 0.28 for the GT53 and 0.27 for the GT55 and GT63.
The cabin is centered around a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch central touchscreen angled toward the driver, with an optional 14-inch passenger display. The infotainment runs the latest MBUX software on the Mercedes-Benz MB.OS platform, integrating AI assistants including ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini. Three AMG-specific applications are included: AMG Performance Menu, AMG Set-up, and AMG Track Pace.
Standard chassis technology includes multi-link suspension, AMG Ride Control+ air springs, and rear-wheel steering up to 6 degrees. The GT63 variant comes standard with carbon-ceramic brakes and AMG’s Active Ride Control+ suspension, which replaces traditional anti-roll bars with hydraulic units. An AMG Force Sport+ driving mode is designed to recreate the sound and gearshift sensations of a combustion engine, with the GT53 simulating a six-cylinder sound and the GT55 and GT63 featuring simulated V8 acoustics.
Buyers can personalize their vehicle with more than 60 exterior colours through the Manufaktur programme. Optional features include an electrically dimming panoramic glass roof, AMG Performance seats, a Burmester 4D audio system, and a dashcam. The vehicle offers 607 litres of boot space, expandable to 1,740 litres with the rear seats folded, plus a 78-litre front trunk. Pricing for the GT53 starts at €113,050 in Europe, with the GT55 and GT63 models set for release in the second quarter of next year.
