Kawasaki Launches 2027 KLE500 SE Smartride with Self-Engaging Clutch
Kawasaki has introduced the 2027 KLE500 SE Smartride variant, featuring a mechanical centrifugal clutch for clutch-free urban riding and new tubeless tyres.

Kawasaki has launched the 2027 KLE500 SE Smartride with a mechanical centrifugal clutch and tubeless tyres. The new variant allows riders to pull away from a stop and halt without using the clutch lever.
Kawasaki’s Smartride technology integrates a compact mechanical centrifugal clutch within a conventional clutch assembly. The system is entirely mechanical and requires no electronics. It reduces the need for delicate half-clutch control when pulling away. Riders no longer need to operate the clutch lever in stop-and-go urban riding. They can still shift gears while moving using the clutch lever and shift pedal as normal.
Updated chassis and tyre specification for Smartride variant
The SE Smartride model uses a 150/70-17 rear tubeless tyre. This is a larger size than the standard KLE500's 140/70-17 rear tyre. The front wheel is a 21-inch unit with a 90/90 tyre. The bike features an LCD screen with an easy-to-read angle. A multipurpose bar above the panel is included for mounting ancillary equipment. The new 150/70/17 rear rim size is said to offer more tyre options at replacement time.
Core specifications and factory accessory packages confirmed
Power comes from a 451 cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. It produces 45 PS at 9,000 rpm and 42.6 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. The transmission is a six-speed unit. Suspension consists of a 43 mm upside-down fork with 210 mm travel at the front and a Kawasaki Uni Trak monoshock with 196 mm travel at the rear. Braking is handled by a single 300 mm front disc and a 230 mm rear disc, both with two-piston calipers. Switchable two-channel Nissin ABS is standard.
Other key specifications include a 16-litre fuel tank, a wet weight of 194 kg, a seat height of 870 mm, and 185 mm of ground clearance. Kawasaki confirms three factory accessory packages. All items are factory-developed and use only approved genuine Kawasaki accessories.
