GWM Malaysia Launches Wey G9 Hi4 HEV at RM249,800
GWM Malaysia has launched the Wey G9 Hi4 HEV, a hybrid electric SUV priced at RM249,800 on-the-road. The new variant undercuts its plug-in hybrid equivalent by RM20,000 while offering a claimed 845 km WLTP range.

The Wey G9 Hi4 HEV is priced at RM249,800 on-the-road in Malaysia. This hybrid electric vehicle is RM20,000 cheaper than the plug-in hybrid variant launched earlier this year. Order books for the HEV opened a week before the official pricing announcement. The PHEV equivalent, launched in January, retails at RM269,800 on-the-road without insurance.
Powertrain and performance
The Wey G9 Hi4 HEV uses Hybrid Intelligent 4WD technology. Its powertrain combines a 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine with a four-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. An integrated electric motor sits on the front axle, while a rear-axle motor draws from a 1.67 kWh hybrid battery. Combined system output is 358 PS and 782 Nm. GWM claims a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.5 seconds for the HEV.
For comparison, the PHEV variant uses a different setup. It features a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine, dual electric motors, and a four-speed DHT. Its combined output is higher at 442 PS, but torque is lower at 642 Nm. The PHEV carries a much larger 44.2 kWh battery.

Efficiency and range
Fuel consumption for the HEV is claimed at 6.5 litres per 100 km. Its combined WLTP range is claimed at 845 km. The plug-in hybrid variant offers a pure electric range of approximately 145 km on the WLTP standard. Its total hybrid range is up to 850 km WLTP.
Specification and equipment
Both HEV and PHEV versions are identical in specification except for their powertrains. Exterior dimensions are 5,050 mm long, 1,985 mm wide, and 1,900 mm tall, with a 3,085 mm wheelbase. This makes the Wey G9 longer and wider than the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Ground clearance is 155 mm. Both use a three-row, 2-2-3 seating configuration.
Suspension consists of MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear. They roll on 18-inch alloy wheels with 245/50R18 tyres and include a tyre repair kit. Luggage capacity ranges from 233 litres with all seats up to 1,725 litres with seats folded.
Exterior equipment includes intelligent LED headlamps with automatic high beam, a follow-me-home function, LED daytime running lights, tail lamps, fog lamps, and power-adjustable, auto-folding side mirrors. A powered tailgate with sensor and auto-sensing wipers are also standard.
Inside, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel is paired with a head-up display. The central infotainment is a 14.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Exterior colour options are Aurora White, Wisdom Grey, and Nebula Black.
Market context and introductory offers
More than 2,000 units of the Wey G9 Hi4 PHEV are already on Malaysian roads. GWM Malaysia said the rollout of the hybrid variant might help boost the brand’s reach in the segment further. An introductory package has been announced to support the HEV launch.
The package includes promotional financing rates from 0.08% via selected banks. It also provides RM5,000 in trade-in support and a 5-year free maintenance package valued at RM11,200. The Wey G9 Hi4 HEV is now available for order in Malaysia with these incentives.
