Toyota July 2026 global sales fall 5.2%

Toyota Motor Corporation's global sales fell 5.2% year-on-year in July 2026. The Japanese automaker sold 912,683 vehicles worldwide that month, according to a report from Just-Auto.

Sales within Japan rose by 6.6% to 193,785 units. Overseas sales, however, dropped by 8.1% to 718,898 units. The company attributed the global decline to the ongoing Middle East conflict and rising competition in international markets.

Year-to-Date Performance

The group's sales trajectory for the first seven months of 2026 also showed a decline. Cumulative global sales for Toyota, Lexus, and Daihatsu reached 6,275,281 units, a decrease of 2.6% compared to the same period the previous year. Japanese sales grew 5.8% to 1,279,537 units, while overseas sales fell 4.5% to 4,995,744 units. These figures exclude sales from truck maker Hino, which was spun off from the group at the end of March 2026.

Breaking down the Toyota and Lexus brands specifically, their combined year-to-date sales fell 3.2% to 5,865,023 units. Domestic sales for these brands increased 5.7% to 954,818 units. Overseas sales for Toyota and Lexus dropped 4.8% to 4,910,205 units.

Regional Sales Breakdown

Regional performance was mixed through the first seven months. North American sales rose by just under 1% to 1,707,751 units. Within that region, U.S. sales saw a slight increase to 1,459,752 units. In contrast, deliveries in Latin America, excluding Mexico, fell 5.0% to 273,128 units.

Sales in Asia, excluding Japan, declined by 8.2% to 1,668,907 units. This drop was driven mainly by an 18% plunge in the Chinese market, where sales totaled 809,417 units. Electrified Vehicle Sales

A bright spot for Toyota was the performance of its electrified vehicle lineup. Global sales of these models surged almost 10% in the January-July period, reaching 3,180,993 units. This accounted for over 54% of the group's total global sales volume.

The growth was led by a 130% jump in global battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales to 230,163 units, most of which were sold overseas. Daihatsu's Performance

Toyota's small-car subsidiary, Daihatsu, reported growth for the first seven months of 2026. Its global sales increased by 6.7% to 410,258 units. Sales in Japan grew by 6.0% to 324,719 units. Overseas sales for Daihatsu increased by 9.1% to 85,539 units.
