Mitsubishi Motors announced an update to its Momentum 2030 plan for the United States, outlining a long-term commitment to the market. The company said the plan is built around four strategic pillars: electrification, an expanded product line-up, a modernised retail sales model, and network expansion with sustainable growth.

Strategic Pillars of Momentum 2030

The four pillars form the backbone of Mitsubishi’s U.S. strategy. Electrification will drive the introduction of new electric and plug-in models. The expanded product line-up aims to bring six vehicles to the U.S. by 2027, up from the current four. A modernised retail sales model will reshape how Mitsubishi sells its cars, while network expansion will increase dealer presence across the country.

Re-entry into the Pick-up Segment

Mitsubishi confirmed it intends to re-enter the pick-up truck segment in North America. The company will collaborate with Nissan, which already sells the Frontier there. Details are limited, but a teaser image shows a shadowy vehicle with prominent daytime running lights on the rear left. Mitsubishi’s last U.S. pick-up was the Raider, based on the Dodge Dakota, sold about 15 years ago.

Rumours of a Nissan-based Mitsubishi pick-up have circulated for years. The teaser suggests the new model will be built on the same platform as the Frontier, but Mitsubishi has not yet released specifications or a launch date.

New EV and SUV Offerings

The company also revealed a new electric sport-back and an expanded Outlander lineup. The Eclipse Sportback EV will essentially be a rebadge of the third-generation Nissan Leaf. It is scheduled to launch in the fall, followed by a rugged, off-road-focused Outlander variant in the first quarter of 2027.

In addition to the Sportback, Mitsubishi will add an Outlander Plug-in Hybrid and a new rugged Outlander variant to its U.S. roster. The full 2027 lineup will include:

The company said the new rugged Outlander variant’s name will be announced in the coming months.

Future Outlook

Mitsubishi also mentioned a U.S. version of the next-generation Montero, known as the Pajero, which will debut globally on September 2. U.S. media outlets suggest the Montero could arrive a few years after the global launch, but Mitsubishi has not confirmed a U.S. introduction.

The company’s release stated that, in the near term, Mitsubishi Motors will expand its U.S. lineup from four vehicles today to six vehicles in 2027. The plan is supported by the new electric and SUV models, the pick-up collaboration with Nissan, and the potential Montero entry.

The announcement came from a press release issued by Mitsubishi Motors and reported by paultan.org. No further details were provided at this time.
