Proton has quietly launched the locally-assembled CKD version of its eMas 7 plug-in hybrid in Malaysia. The company updated its website and pricing effective August 26, a move confirmed by a company spokesperson to paultan.org, without issuing a formal press release.
Pricing remains identical to the previous completely built-up (CBU) model. The base Prime variant starts at RM105,800, the Premium is RM119,800, and the top Premium Plus with a larger battery is RM125,800. These on-the-road prices include a RM4,000 launch rebate, which was initially for the first 5,000 customers but has been extended indefinitely. A six-year unlimited-mileage warranty and an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty are also included.
The unchanged pricing is notable, as Proton reduced the price of the fully electric eMas 7 EV when it shifted to local assembly. The CKD PHEV models, however, do gain one new feature for the higher trims.
Powertrain and Performance
The plug-in hybrid powertrain is unchanged. It combines a 218 PS front motor with a 99 PS 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine through a dedicated hybrid transmission. Total system output is 262 PS and 262 Nm of torque.
Battery capacity and range differ between the variants. The Prime and Premium use an 18.4 kWh battery for an 83 km WLTP electric range, while the Premium Plus uses a 29.8 kWh battery for 136 km of EV range. Combined with a 51-litre fuel tank, total ranges are 943 km and 996 km, respectively. The heavier Premium Plus has a slightly slower 0-100 km/h time.
| Variant | Battery Capacity | WLTP EV Range | Total Range | 0-100 km/h Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prime / Premium | 18.4 kWh (CATL LFP) | 83 km | 943 km | 8.0 seconds |
| Premium Plus | 29.8 kWh (Aegis short blade) | 136 km | 996 km | 8.2 seconds |
Charging and Equipment
Charging capabilities vary with the battery size. The Prime and Premium support 30 kW DC fast charging, taking 20 minutes for a 30-80% charge. The Premium Plus supports 60 kW DC charging, achieving the same charge in 16 minutes. All variants have a 6.6 kW AC charging cap.
The base Prime trim's equipment is unchanged. It includes full-LED lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10.2-inch digital cluster, a 15.4-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity, manual faux leather seats, and a six-speaker audio system.
The CKD Premium and Premium Plus models now feature seat massage functions in addition to the existing seat ventilation. These higher trims add substantial equipment over the base model.
| Feature | Prime | Premium / Premium Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Seat Massage | No | Yes (CKD addition) |
| Seat Ventilation | No | Yes |
| Wheel Size | 18-inch | 19-inch |

Safety and Driver Assistance
All variants come standard with six airbags and a suite of driver assistance systems. This includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop & go, lane centring assist, and traffic sign recognition.
The Premium and Premium Plus trims add a front centre airbag, bringing the total to seven. They also gain rear radar sensors, enabling blind spot monitoring with collision prevention, rear cross traffic alert with auto brake, and a door opening warning system. Front parking sensors and a rear seat reminder are also included.
Proton's quiet launch means the updated eMas 7 PHEV is now available for order through its official website and dealerships, complete with the new seat massage function for the Premium and Premium Plus CKD models.
