Puspakom's GEAR Service Sees Over 90% Uptake in Used Car
Puspakom's GEAR digital booking service for vehicle inspections has achieved over 90% slot uptake since its soft launch, with strong backing from used car
Puspakom's GiCheck Early Access Reservation (GEAR) service has recorded a slot uptake rate exceeding 90% since its introduction. The vehicle inspection company says the digital booking platform has seen particularly strong demand from the pre-owned car sector.
GEAR was developed as a direct response to long-standing feedback from automotive dealers and fleet operators who require rapid turnaround times. The service was initially introduced in July as a premium booking option and subsequently expanded nationwide after a successful pilot.
Pilot Phase Performance
During a pilot at six branches, the GEAR service exceeded key performance targets. Puspakom reported a 98% booking rate and an average inspection time of 35 minutes. The customer turn-up rate was around 95%. Following these results, the service was launched at 23 other branches ahead of the original rollout schedule.
Mahmood Razak Bahman, Puspakom’s CEO, stated the service was introduced based on customer feedback. "GEAR was introduced because our customers told us they needed greater flexibility," he said. He noted a clear demand from the pre-owned vehicle industry, where dealers often need to complete inspections within short timeframes. The normal appointment system continues to operate alongside the new service.
Industry Endorsement
The 'digital fast lane' has been well-received by used car dealers. Khoo Kah Jin, president of the Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Car Dealers and Credit Companies Association (FMCKLS), explained the business need. "The pre-owned vehicle business operates on relatively tight transaction timelines and the ability to secure an earlier inspection appointment can make a meaningful difference," he said.
Khoo added that GEAR provides an option for those with urgent requirements. He also highlighted a benefit for the industry's operational transparency. Having a direct channel with Puspakom gives customers greater visibility over the appointment process and reduces the need to rely on intermediaries, he stated.
Future Integration and Hours
Puspakom says it will actively engage with the transport ministry and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to integrate insights from GEAR's high uptake into the nation's broader digital transport ecosystem. The company also has plans to significantly expand its operating hours.
Puspakom plans to open seven days a week starting in November. Also, it is set to extend operations to 24 hours a day from January 2027.
