Production: Volvo Car Malaysia has launched a locally-assembled CKD version of the 2026 EX90 electric SUV

Volvo Car Malaysia launched the updated, locally-assembled 2026 Volvo EX90 electric SUV on September 8, 2026. The CKD model is priced at RM428,888, which is RM14,000 less than the previous imported version, with the first 100 customers receiving a RM25,000 cash rebate and a complimentary wallbox.

The shift to local assembly is the key change. This CKD production enables the price reduction. The vehicle remains a seven-seater with a 2-3-2 layout, though a six-seat option is planned for the future.

Powertrain and Performance Upgrades

The core technical upgrade is the adoption of an 800-volt electrical architecture, replacing the previous 400-volt system. This enables significantly faster DC charging and increases power output. The Twin Motor Performance setup now produces 680 PS, up from 517 PS, though peak torque drops slightly to 870 Nm.

Acceleration from 0-100 km/h improves to 4.2 seconds. The top speed remains electronically limited to 180 km/h. Volvo attributes the quicker acceleration not only to increased power but also to reduced weight and wiring from the 800-volt system.

Battery, Charging, and Range

The battery chemistry remains nickel cobalt manganese (NCM), but capacity is slightly revised. The new pack has a gross energy capacity of 106 kWh, down from 111 kWh, with 103 kWh usable. Consequently, the WLTP-rated range is now 617 km, a slight decrease from 623 km.

The 800-volt architecture drastically improves charging speeds. DC charging capability increases to 350 kW, cutting the 10-80% charge time to 22 minutes. According to the source, "250 km of range can be added in just 10 minutes." AC charging remains at 11 kW, requiring 10 hours for a full charge.

Technology and Features

A major technology addition is the core computer with dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin chips, capable of 500 TOPS for AI and safety functions. This system supports over-the-air updates. Exterior design is nearly identical to the prior model, retaining signature lighting and a grille-less face.

The interior continues to revolve around a 14.5-inch portrait touchscreen with Google built-in services. A nine-inch digital instrument cluster and a button-less dashboard are standard. The extensive feature list includes a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, head-up display, active air suspension, and ventilated front seats with massage functions.

Safety and Warranty

The safety suite remains comprehensive despite the removal of a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor. Standard systems include Pilot Assist, blind spot monitoring with steering assist, autonomous emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera. The airbag complement and interior occupancy radar are unchanged.

Customers can choose a new Mulberry Red exterior paint among five colours. Two Nappa leather interior themes are offered: Charcoal with Light Ash or Cardamom with Brown Ash décor. Volvo provides a five-year, unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty and an eight-year, 160,000-km battery warranty.
