Tesla has officially launched the Model Y Performance in China, with the vehicle now available for order on its local configurator. The flagship variant, built at the company's Giga Shanghai plant, is priced at 369,000 yuan with estimated delivery times of two to six weeks.

This launch reintroduces the Performance badge to the Chinese market after an absence of over eighteen months. The previous Model Y Performance, priced at 354,900 yuan, was discontinued when the Juniper facelift arrived in early 2025 and was not initially carried over.

The new model becomes the fifth and most expensive version of the Model Y in China. The full lineup and pricing is as follows:

Model VariantPrice (yuan)
Rear-Wheel Drive263,500
Long Range RWD288,500
Long Range AWD313,500
Model Y L339,000
Model Y Performance369,000

Powertrain and Performance Specifications

Mechanically, the Chinese-specification car mirrors the version launched in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa in August last year. It uses a dual-motor Performance 4DU drive system. According to MIIT filings, the front motor is rated at 176 kW and the rear motor at 291 kW, for a combined global output of 460 hp (343 kW).

This powertrain propels the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 250 km/h. The vehicle draws power from a 78.4 kWh battery pack supplied by LG Energy Solution's local plant. It is rated for a range of 659 km on the CLTC test cycle.

Chassis and Interior Features

The Performance model carries over specific chassis and styling equipment. This includes front and rear bumpers designed to reduce drag and lift, a carbon-fibre rear spoiler, and 21-inch Arachnid 2.0 forged wheels with red brake callipers. The suspension features adaptive dampers with Standard and Sport settings, alongside a reduced-intervention stability mode.

Inside, the cabin is fitted with carbon-fibre trim and aluminium pedals. It features Performance-specific front sport seats with heating, ventilation, and power-adjustable thigh support. The rear seats are heated and power-folding. The model also gets the larger 16-inch touchscreen shared with the Model Y L variant.

Market Context and Production Impact

The launch comes during a challenging period for the Model Y in China. According to the source, deliveries fell 25.76% year-on-year in August to 29,260 units. Year-to-date deliveries are down 6.1% to 226,931 units amid intense competition from local rivals.

Production at Giga Shanghai has broader implications for Tesla's supply chain. The plant is responsible for supplying right-hand-drive vehicles to markets like Malaysia. This production path now opens the possibility for the Model Y Performance to return to the Malaysian market, where it would likely sit above the current range-topping Model Y L.
