Mitsubishi has released Australian pricing and specifications for the newly unveiled 2027 Pajero, just one day after its global reveal. The Triton-based 4x4 will begin deliveries in December, following its initial sale in Thailand where it is manufactured.

Four variants will be offered. The GLS is available as a five- or seven-seater, while the Exceed and GSR are seven-seaters only.

VariantSeatingPrice (AU$)Price (RM)
GLS5-seat68,490198,600
GLS7-seat69,990202,900
Exceed7-seat79,990231,900
GSR7-seat84,990246,400

This pricing positions the Pajero below the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado but above the Ford Everest and GWM Tank 500 in the Australian market.

Platform and Dimensions

The new model marks a significant shift from the monocoque construction of its predecessors to a ladder-frame chassis shared with the latest Triton. This move consolidates the classic Pajero and the discontinued Pajero Sport into a single model.

Despite arriving two decades after the previous generation, its growth is modest. It is 20 mm longer, 50 mm wider, and 20 mm taller than the old Pajero, with a 90 mm longer wheelbase. Compared to the last Pajero Sport, it is 95 mm longer, 110 mm wider, and 85 mm taller.

Powertrain and Drivetrain

The Pajero uses the Triton's 2.4-liter 4N16 MIVEC turbodiesel engine, but with revisions. A new variable geometry turbo and water-cooled intercooler boost output to 204 PS and 480 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission, which is lighter than the old six-speed unit and offers a wider ratio spread. AdBlue injection and auto start/stop are fitted to reduce emissions and fuel consumption.

Mitsubishi's Super Select II four-wheel-drive system is standard. It includes a low-range transfer case, a rear locking differential, and the brand's Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) torque distribution system with Active Yaw Control.

Chassis and Towing

The suspension consists of double wishbones at the front and a five-link solid axle at the rear, with coil springs all around. Mitsubishi states the frame is significantly stiffer than the Pajero Sport's, and it is equipped with long-travel suspension, high-response dampers, and anti-roll bars. The vehicle has a braked towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes, aided by a Trailer Load Assist system designed to counteract sway.

Interior and Features

Inside, the dashboard features a layered, hand-stitched design with prominent grab handles. The instrument and infotainment displays, sourced from the Nissan Leaf, are offered in 12.3-inch or 14.3-inch sizes. The centre screen includes a unique off-road display with an altimeter and inclinometers.

Standard technology includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, high-power USB-C ports, and a wireless charger. Upholstery ranges from water-resistant fabric in the GLS to leather with heating in the Exceed. The top GSR variant adds ventilated seats available in a camel colour option.

Available options include a fridge, a panoramic sunroof, a digital rear-view mirror, and a 12-speaker Yamaha sound system. The cabin also benefits from extensive sound insulation and acoustic glass.

Safety equipment is comprehensive. The Pajero comes with eight airbags, including a driver's knee and a centre airbag. The MiPilot Level 2 semi-autonomous driving suite includes autonomous emergency braking front and rear, blind spot monitoring with collision prevention, cross traffic alerts, and traffic sign recognition.

The report notes the Pajero is destined for 100 global markets but casts doubt on a Malaysian launch, citing raise prices and a shrinking market for pick-up-based SUVs. Even if approved, arrival would likely be at least two years away.
