Hyundai Mobis has started mass production of power electric systems at its newly built plant in Nováky, Slovakia. The facility is a key part of the South Korean supplier's expansion within Europe's battery electric vehicle supply chain.

According to the company, a power electric system is an integrated electric powertrain unit. It combines an electric motor, an inverter for current conversion, and a reduction gear. The launch of local PE system production in Europe is intended to strengthen the company's partnerships with automakers in the region as they shift to electrified vehicles.

Plant investment and capacity

The Nováky plant required an investment of 280 billion South Korean won, equivalent to 206 million US dollars. The facility covers 8,500 square meters of floor space. Its annual production capacity is set at 280,000 power electric systems.

The plant houses production lines for key components. These include stators, which are a core part of electric motors, and inverters. The completed systems will be supplied to Hyundai and Kia vehicle assembly plants operating in Europe. They will also be provided to other global customers.

Strategic production network

Hyundai Mobis now manufactures both battery system assemblies and power electric systems in major automotive markets. The company's production footprint for these components spans several locations.

The Slovakian site's location is strategically significant. It places Hyundai Mobis near the operations of several major global automakers, including Volkswagen, Stellantis, and Volvo, in addition to its affiliate Kia.

Leadership vision for European hub

Speaking at the plant's opening event, Hyundai Mobis President Lee Gyu Suk outlined the facility's role. "To realise Hyundai Mobis' future vision, we will continue to invest and devote our efforts to establishing the Nováky PE system plant as a key electrification hub in Europe," Lee said.

He added that future strategic models from global automakers fitted with Hyundai Mobis systems would lead the regional electrification market. The company already produces battery system assemblies in Europe at separate plants in the Czech Republic and Spain. The new Slovakian operation adds integrated powertrain manufacturing to its European capabilities.

The plant opening solidifies the supplier's position in the continent's automotive manufacturing network. It provides a local source for critical electric vehicle drivetrain components as demand grows.
