Ford Bronco Basecamp REEV SUV confirmed for Australia 2027
Ford will launch the JMC-built Bronco Basecamp, a range-extended electric SUV, in Australia in late 2027. The model features a 49 kWh battery for up to 900 km WLTP range and includes outdoor-focused amenities.

Ford has confirmed the Bronco Basecamp, an electrified SUV, will launch in Australia in the second half of 2027. The model is a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) built by Ford's Chinese partner JMC.
The announcement ends speculation about the model's regional availability. The vehicle will help Ford diversify its lineup as global diesel prices impact its Ranger and Everest models.
Vehicle Design and Dimensions
The Bronco Basecamp adopts the boxy, off-road styling of the standard Bronco but uses a road-focused unibody chassis. Design elements include a full-width grille with round headlights, wraparound windows, and a side-opening tailgate with a full-sized spare tire. These are contrasted with aerodynamic features like a front "wing," slimmer air intakes, and pop-out door handles.
The SUV is substantially larger than the standard five-door Bronco. Its dimensions are detailed below.
| Dimension | Bronco Basecamp | Difference vs. Standard 5-Door Bronco |
|---|---|---|
| Length | 5,025 mm | +215 mm |
| Width | 1,960 mm | +35 mm |
| Height | 1,825 mm | +42 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,950 mm | Same |
This size makes it larger than other 4x4-styled SUVs like the Jetour T2.
Cabin and Outdoor Features
The right-hand-drive cabin for Australia mirrors the Chinese-market version. It features a simplified design with large digital screens: an 8.8-inch instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch infotainment display. The interior includes twin smartphone holders with a Qi wireless charger and very few physical buttons.
Ford states many outdoor-oriented features will carry over to international markets. The seats fold completely flat to accommodate a full-length inflatable mattress sold as an accessory. A feature called the Wild Kitchen is built into the tailgate; it is a fold-down table designed for use with a bottle opener, a magnetized surface, and a three-pin power socket located in the boot.
The range-topping Outer Banks model adds a 7.5-liter center console fridge and an RV-style pop-up roof.
Powertrain and Performance
For now, only the range-extended EV variant is confirmed for Australia. A battery-electric version has not been announced. The powertrain consists of dual motors providing all-wheel drive, paired with a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that acts as a generator.
Ford has not released official output figures for the Australian model. The source report notes the Chinese version produces 421 PS (310 kW) and 600 Nm of torque for reference.
The Australian-spec vehicle will be equipped with a larger 49 kWh battery. Ford estimates a combined WLTP range of between 800 and 900 kilometers. The company confirmed a 6.6 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) function but has not provided details on electric-only range or charging capabilities.
Regional Availability and Pricing
While Australia is confirmed for late 2027, Ford has not announced plans for other markets. The report suggests the model would be welcome in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia. It notes that preferential import and excise duty rates for Chinese-built vehicles in Malaysia could allow the Bronco Basecamp to be priced more competitively there than the Thai-built Ford Everest.
