Right-hand-drive launch

iCaur has just revealed the global version of its V25, a right-hand-drive range-extended electric vehicle. The announcement followed the car’s debut at the Chengdu Motor Show. According to Paul Tan, the V25 will be the brand’s first model to enter the Australian market, with a launch scheduled for early 2027. The vehicle is expected to be exported to Malaysia shortly thereafter, as the local Chery arm is already preparing the V27 for the region.

Powertrain and performance

The V25 is likely to use the powertrain from the larger V27. That would give it a 1.5-litre turbo-charged four-cylinder engine producing 156 PS and 220 Nm. Depending on the configuration, the electric motors could deliver either 252 PS (185 kW) and 300 Nm from a single motor, or 455 PS (335 kW) and 505 Nm when two motors are used. The most powerful version is reported to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. A 33.679-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery would provide a pure electric CLTC range of over 210 km (about 170 km WLTP) and a total range exceeding 1,200 km. These figures are highlighted in our stats.

Dimensions and design

The V25 measures 4,636 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width and 1,855 mm in height, making it 416 mm longer, 5 mm wider and 10 mm taller than the V23. The extra 85 mm of length comes from a 2,820 mm wheelbase, with the remainder added to the rear overhang. The car’s exterior now features round daytime running lights instead of linear ones, rectangular rear quarter panels, and a lower rear number-plate recess moved from the tailgate into the bumper. A full-size spare tyre replaces the V23’s storage backpack, and a vertical handle has been added for the sideways-opening rear door. The V25 also switches to premium Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres, up from the Chaoyang Radial RP76+ used on the V23.

ModelLength (mm)Width (mm)Height (mm)Wheelbase (mm)
V254,6361,9201,8552,820
V234,2201,9151,8452,735

The interior largely retains the V23’s rectilinear layout, metal-look trim and chunky switchgear. A 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen remains, but the V25 adds a real instrument display, more physical controls and a new centre console with twin phone holders and a Qi wireless charger. Rear seating has been expanded to accommodate a proper bench for three, providing more legroom and width, whereas the V23’s rear seats were largely designed for two.

Market outlook

With the V25 confirmed for right-hand-drive markets, exports to Malaysia are expected soon after the Australian launch, given that Malaysia is a key Chery market. The local arm is busy with the V27, which should arrive later this year. The V25’s rear number-plate recess has also been pushed down from the tailgate into the bumper.
